It's All About The Boat

Well it's been awhile so thought it was time for an update. Last Saturday Split Enz was lifted out and surveyed. She came out just after 9am and put back in 3/4 hr later. Although she looked a little slimy, it was not a concern as this will soon disappear after a few sails.

Split Enz out for the survey
She flew through the survey so then it was just a matter of paying the balance......the last few days the Euro was getting stronger so every day the exchange rate was critical. I managed to secure a pretty good rate for Monday so the deal was done....we owned  a yacht at last. In case you are wondering why Split Enz for a name....well it all started in Split Croatia and the hope is one day we will sail her home to NZ....we will see how that goes further down the track.

In the end, the change over didn't take effect until Thursday.  Euro banks are a little slow in depositing money but quick to take it from you. The old owner wasn't keen to let us have the keys until he physically saw the money in his account.

So as we had left our apartment on Wednesday, our Aussie friends Cam and Annie took us out overnight to one of the outer islands. We copped a bit of a blow in the evening /morning but it was most enjoyable. The following day it was "D" day.
Nice peaceful evening on Cam and Annies yacht.

Around 2pm we were ferried to the marina  by Cam and took possession. So for the past 4 days , we have been cleaning , exploring, working out what goes where, you name it. She's a really comfortable yacht, looking forward to getting out there amongst  the 100's of islands and explore
.
We have a number of things to do. The main one is registration. You cant sail out of the marina with out it, without the registration you cant buy the permit to sail any where in Croatia, so its a

bit more of a waiting game, but one we knew we would have to wait for.

Ange is getting keen to take a trip  into Zadar to buy the odd bits and bobs, although the yacht was really well equipped, there's always things you are going to need.
So at this stage we should be up and running around the middle of June. We will keep you posted in between. Thanks for reading Steve.
