In a way this has been my dream for many years. Ange has known that I was just "Dreaming" and that this huge thing of selling up and going sailing was nothing more than a wild dream, but not to be. So for the last 3-4 years the plan was put into action. I had been working on the family home building, extending...you name it. I worked most weekends and many a night til late....with the goal of once the house was completed we may sell and buy a smaller house.....cash up and buy a yacht.
In March of this year we put the house on the market and went to auction. Auckland house prices were going nuts so we were keen to cash in on this. So with in 2 weeks of each other, the rental unit we owned in Northcote Pt. and the family house were both sold.
So at this stage, Ange had given notice to her employer, the airline tickets were booked and we were off to Europe on the 14th April.
By now there was A LOT to do, we only had 3 weeks to buy another home and we had to pack up 17 years of things you acquire over the time we had at Benders Ave.
All of our worldly belongings went into storage. The cat "Jack" has gone back to his rightful owners Emma and Arj. On top of all of this we managed to buy a town house in Birkenhead with tenants happy to stay so things had fallen into place quite nicely...although a little stressful. The night before we flew out Ian and Trish had the family and a few close friends around for a going away dinner which was really nice. The next day on the 14th April we flew out to Geneva on our way to Split Croatia. We have planned to be away for 6 months, due back in NZ on the 1st October.....just in time for Summer.
