4 Seasons and 2 bays with Marina

Skipper and crew
On our return from Zagreb it was time to set sail for a leisurely cruise taking our first kiwi guest Marina Northey out on Split Enz . Unfortunately  Mike couldn't make it this time as he  was back in the Uk after his break.

We set off with the blazing sun in our faces and were soon hit by some pretty nasty rain and were forced to motor most of the way due to the lack of wind.

On our arrival at Zincena Bay on Pasman Island we were then greeted by the type of weather we had signed up for, the water was around 23deg C , crystal clear and most enjoyable. Our Aussie friends Cam and Annie had joined us in convoy so around 5pm it was the usual time for a Pivo (beer).

Mike and Marina as it turned out walked to this bay from Pasman 2 years ago so the next day we decided to go for a walk and explore part of the island. I remember Marina having a particular photo on her facebook with her looking out to sea with a yacht in the harbour....I remember commenting on it saying hey there's my yacht out there......well 2 years later I can honestly say, there is our yacht out there....

An old hut we came across on our walk.

After scaling the slopes and returning back to sea level Marina got talking to some locals who were staying in one of the holiday homes. The Croatian hospitality was out in force again and they invited us in for a cup of coffee and chat. After a most enjoyable cuppa it was back to the yachts for the remainder of the day with more swimming.

The next day it was time to start heading back as Marina was due to return to Zagreb on Thursday. We left at around 9am and made our way back towards Sukosan. The weather was fine and the wind was around 20-25 knots with  the odd gust to keep us on our toes. We had the full main up and only half of the genoa un furled with the wind on our beam most of the way made for a really enjoyable sail. Poor old Marina found it a little hard to cope as she was really starting to find the motion a little hard to handle.

We anchored at Pasman Bridge for the night as a
bit of a stop gap til some weather passed over. Its no fun trying to reverse into the marina with 20+ knots blowing. Once again the water was warm, a quick dive down to the anchor confirmed it was wedged in good, so I could sleep easy knowing we wouldn't drag the anchor through the night.
Blue, blue water

That evening we went out for Ange's birthday. Anne and Cam joined us for a meal at a restaurant on the next island across from Pasman Bridge, Ugljan Island. It was a good 2 k walk after the trip across the bay in the dinghies. We returned back to the dinghies at around 10pm.  A great night was had, Annie struck a little problem,  ending up in the drink...Cam has his version of how it really happened.
I lost one of my jandals getting into the dingy, thinking well that's gone, Mikes going to kill me as he gave them to me for xmas .... Little did I know Marina and I would go out the next morning and scan the sea shore looking for it and find it some half a km away. It really made my day....I guess you sort of get attached to things.

We up anchored at around noon to return back to Sukosan. The wind had died some what but was still around 15 knots on our return. Luckily our neighbouring yacht in the marina was out , so it was pretty straight forward backing Split Enz  into her berth.
This is the view from the garden where we were invited in for a coffee.
On our return to Sukosan, it was time to get Marina to the bus station in Zadar. She caught the 4pm bus to Zagreb and then onto her Grandparents from there for a  2 week stay before heading back to the UK.
It was great to share what we are up to with family, I just wish Mike could have made it...maybe next year.

Next on the agenda is to catch up with Jim and Judy on the 4th July.  They are both on a cruise in the Med. The plan is to set sail on Saturday for Korcula.  Its about 110 miles south of here. So that's all for now, Thanks for reading, Steve.
