tracey wayne bryden croatian experience

Well here we are finally after 36 hours of travelling to get to see a part of Europe with Steve and Ange.  I am still pinching myself to see if this is real!!!! We have never been to Europe before so this is soooo exciting!
Steve and Ange met us at the airport in Zadar and after a guided tour around Zadar to Sukosan we were introduced to Split Enz.  What a beautiful boat and Wayne and I have our own bedroom and Bryden has his! Yes as you can see I have been pretty excited about this trip and I still cant believe I am here.
We had a lovely swim at the bay on the other side of the Marina and had a good catch up over a few pivos then dinner out with Steve and Anges friends Cam and Annie plus Ronald (neighbour on the marina).  The next day we set about getting fresh provisions for the our pending trip.

Sat 13 July
We woke to a beautiful day in paradise, but there was not wind.  Steve had planned our route the night before and was (as you can imagine) all fired up and ready to go (as we all were). We plan to stay on Molat Island which is North of Zadar about 30 nautical miles.
We departed our marina like pros at 8.45am - Steve completely focussed on the task at hand and we were at his beck and call - not that he needed us.  He and Ange handled it like they'd been doing it for years.  We filled up with diesel - another first for them which again surprised us as again no hitches.
The funniest thing happened...Ronald from the Marina chased us after filling up with fuel saying we couldn't get away without saying goodbye to him so he fare welled us out of the marina.  I tell you S &A have made some fab friends.
We motored all the way to Molat Island passed several beautiful villages all with terracotta tiled roofs. The villages have lots of stone walls terracing the slopes for the likes of olive groves.
Bryden managed to have a wee sleep in his cabin while being serenaded by the hum of the engine.
We travelled past the musical wharf in Zadar again which is awesome - we visited here yesterday - when the wake hits the wharf it sounds like whales communicating. Amazing.
Ange and I sat on the deck chatting and admiring the view.  I'm drinking it all in and still cant believe I'm here and loving every moment.  This is all new territory for S & A too so its exciting for them too.
The islands out here are less inhabited with just a small village dotted here and there.
Bryden was checking the depth gauge as we went through the shallower passages but was never less than about 18m until. This is a lovely secluded bay with only about 11 boats, no obvious residents, although there is a village a couple of kms away.  The boys tried to get to the tip of the hill but it was pretty scratchy doing a bush bash so they gave it away. Bryden had a blat in the dinghy using the oars firstly then the umbrella (using wind power) then the motor - yee ha!
We had a lovely swim in the bay with the water temp about 23 degrees. Just gorgeous and the water is so blue.
I had to have a nana nap as I couldn't keep my eyes open to read - (a sign of a good holiday) I was just far too relaxed.  I woke up to my darling son checking my pulse and squeezing my nose shut!
The rest of the evening was spent chatting and relaxing and just enjoying each others company over a pivo and wine or 2 or 3.
We had a fabulous dinner again tonight - we eat like kings here.
Sleep is great - fresh air does wonders but there was a massive lightening storm through the night. Keep reading tomorrow if you want to know what happened,...to be continued.
