The Story So Far Part 3

After an eventful start,  we arrived in Split Croatia to begin the hunt for a yacht.. (Be it one week late)  Eventful because on our way from Annecy in France back to Geneva we had one of our bags stolen....with our passports. The embassy was extremely helpful. They had our temporary emergency passports ready the same day...phew!  So a week later we finally arrived in Split.
We had an apartment arranged to stay in. I stayed here last year when I came over with work. Its was a good feeling to unpack our suitcases at long last !
It felt great to be back, Split is a really interesting city. Lots of old buildings with a huge amount of history.
The Monday after we arrived, we had made arrangements to catch up with an Australian couple from Victoria, Annie and Cam Hair. We had made contact with them last year and followed their blog with interest as we were hoping to do exactly what they had done. They had bought a Bavaria 46 in Sukosan and we were really looking forward to catching up. We had a cold  beer and  and a chat and then had a bit of a walk around Split. They are a really neat couple and have been a wealth of knowledge. We walked them back to the bus station and said our good byes.....little did they know we would meet up back in Sukosan the following afternoon having just seen the boat of our dreams.

After talking to Cam and Annie we were really motivated to find ourselves a yacht. We spent the rest of the afternoon on the internet and a particular yacht caught my eye. It was just what we were looking for, It was a Jeannau 49 and a privately owned vessel (Not ever chartered) 3 cabin configuration with a really nice master cabin.  2 toilets,  75HP yanmar motor with only 675 hrs. All the boxes had been ticked and then we find out it comes with a marina fully paid up til next April, the VAT tax has been paid so this means we don't have to leave the Med in 18 months, we are free to stay as long as we like.
On Tuesday morning we threw a day bag together and caught the bus up to Sukosan. We met up with the broker Michael and crawled all over the yacht....we were really impressed. We caught up with Cam and Annie, we were welcomed on
board their fine ship "AnneCam" ,had a couple of ales and ended up going out for dinner and stayed the night on board Cam and Annies boat. The next day we signed up for the yacht. The deposit has been paid, subject to the usual checks and everything going ok we should own her by the 21st May.

So at this stage its a bit of a waiting game. On the 11th May we leave Split and move up to Sukosan where we will be based. Its about a 3 hr bus trip from Split with some incredible sights and cruising to be done.
